The Problem

The De La Warr Pavilion is a prestigious arts building on the south coast. The modernist building was opened to the public in December 1935 and is steeped in cultural history. The building houses an art and exhibition centre, a theatre, a gift shop, and a restaurant. Hiwire Lifts identified that the ram seal on the hydraulic lift had developed a leak. Because of the working model of the building, repairs needed to be undertaken outside of normal opening hours.

The Approach

We carried out a thorough survey to establish the finer details of repair—whether the parts would be available, how long they would take to source, and to confirm a realistic timeframe for the repair. We constructed a schedule that took into consideration the time limitations we would work under, due to the building being a public space with a high footfall.

We carried out the work at night, when the building was closed to the public, ensuring minimal downtime. We worked within a tight schedule to make sure the building would be ready to open the following day.

The Outcome

The implementation of a robust schedule ensured that we were able to carry out the works that needed undertaking with no downtime for the client. The client was able to continue generating revenue within its usual opening hours with no disruption.
